How to Calculate Fuel Cost

To calculate fuel cost, you need the distance, fuel economy and fuel price.

Formula:

(Distance ÷ MPG) × 4.54609 × Fuel Price Per Litre = Journey Cost

Fuel Cost Example

If you travel 100 miles in a car doing 40 mpg, with fuel costing £1.45 per litre:

• 100 ÷ 40 = 2.5 UK gallons
• 2.5 × 4.54609 = 11.365 litres
• 11.365 × £1.45 = £16.48

So, a 100 mile journey at 40 mpg costs approximately £16.48.
